Simplicity is key

Tim recognised that although a spreadsheet may be a viable initial solution to managing leave, it quickly becomes complicated and hard to manage.

“It’s saved me a lot of time wading through email trying to piece together information that I’ve forgotten to put into the spreadsheet, and it does the calculations for me in terms of who has got what time left without me needing to make spreadsheets which quickly get complicated when you factor in different start dates, different working hours etc. meaning it sounds simple to do in a spreadsheet but quickly becomes complicated. For the low-cost, it’s a no-brainer to use an external system for this, and new functionality being added all the time without needing to do it yourself is a plus as well!”
